( I am in no way affiliated with St Tropez. I am just a very creepy fanatic of their products :)
Here at my house... a tan is a beautiful thing. From the youngest to the oldest, my family  is blessed with a naturally exotic-looking complexion that most women would kill for. Why? Because they cover a MULTITUDE OF SKIN SINS - Makes us look more toned and fit - and many many more things that make us crazy about that kissed by the sun kinda' glow! So kick back and let me tell you how I stay tan, along with how you can get YOUR BEST Tan as well!

Just for fun-
For myself - tanning was more of a 'tradition'...      I can remember the excitement I felt when summer came and I would drag a few quilts out into the backyard to relax and sun bathe for hours (quilts always felt so nice and cool against my skin in the hot temps). It became a tradition to lay in the sun for the majority of my summer days, reading novel size books (I lived in the pure -quite country side where it was very easy to get lost in those long stories .. I miss it!)... and of course the occasional Fashion Magazine. Radio playing the best music ever back then... ice cold glasses of Homemade Sweet Tea or Fresh Lemonade... The sound of my dad's tractor roaring in the background for me was like white noise to a baby.. so relaxing, comforting and familiar. ---

Isn't it  sad that a memory so sweet has now turned into a nightmare for many people and the days of luxuriously enjoying the hours of Vitamin D is now one of the biggest health/beauty Faux Pas of today. But Because of this... we enter one of the most popular Beauty Trends ever.. FAKE TANS.

So why  .. with all the amazing technology we have now..  is it so dang hard for anyone to come up with a tanning product that actually matches the real color of skin - or doesn't smell like a strange form of body odor?

... if there are any ladies out there like me who has had a slightly exhausting time trying to make self-tanning work, you will know as well as I do that finding products that deliver results and actually look just as good as the real deal -- are few and far between.

Of course it is not in me to ever give up.. so along the way, I finally figured out the things that work and the things that are just a waste of my time or money.

So today I want to share with you one of the brands I trust completely with my skin color (which is a HUGE thing  and should not be bestowed upon just any brand ;). So along with telling you about the PRODUCTS I USE.. I will also share the STEPS I take that makes the most crucial difference in the results of my tan - making it look as natural as the sun does - tips on tough-to-reach places - prepping our skin properly -avoiding streaks and much more so keep reading and Enjoy!

(KATE MOSS has been a longtime lover of this line just as I have, +St Tropez is the Best of the Best for me...)

There's nothing better than having the perfect tan -- especially if you get it the safe way.

Whether you prefer an all-over bronze glow or a lighter, natural tone... ST TROPEZ provides a powerful, healthy self-tanner for all types of sunkissed needs.

Available in SPRAY - LOTION - or MOUSSE Forms, the fast-acting and luxurious formulas will always deliver the rich, even and believable color you're craving.

ST TROPEZ SELF TAN BRONZING MOUSSE (Regular/Original)

What kind of formula do I need? Gels - Lotions - Mousse - Spray?
What I care about most is a flawless result that does not require too much effort on my part. With me, I have to make sure the formula allows the process to be fast and foolproof or else  I will never use it regularly and maybe even find myself back in tanning beds if I am not careful. If you are someone who has been a tanning junky and has tried to switch to self tanners with no luck of sticking with it - - it may very well be that you are not pairing what you're buying with your personalty.

So since we know that all of  ST TROPEZ  Products are amazing... what you do not want to overlook is the "vehicle" or delivery method of what you pick, because you could very well be like me and this aspect will really make all the difference.

LOTIONS

Lotions are the most popular among self-tanners but my least favorite of them all. A lotion form is better for someone with  dry skinlike myself but the downfall is that the added moisture alters the performance a bit.  I have had issues with every lotion tanner I've purchased, so for that reason I like to stick to the other formulas for my actual tanning product and use the Gradual Tan Lotions, Tan enhancers/Extenders, or the After-Sun Lotions-- to maintain my color. I find it much easier to maintain my tan with the products, than it is to go from pale to dark tan over night every couple of weeks.                                                                                       ** (KEEP Reading for moreTIPS ON Maintaining/Keeping Your Tanaround longer and things you can do and avoid to keep it looking even and naturalin betweenyour normal applications.

    GELS

I wanted to mention this kind next because it is a favorite of mine, but in a different brand than the St Tropez. The CLARINS Self-Tanning Instant Gel is one of my favorites that delivers simple, beautiful and very fast results ... you can see this in my full review featuring photos of the "after" results by clicking...hErE.                       A Gel is theEASIESTFormula of all with it's very light and slick texture that glides over skin fast and soaks in fast leaving very little chance for it to streak.

      SPRAY

This is another option that is easy to use. Perfect for people with physical limitations who have a hard time bending over or moving into the  crazy poses that's sometimes needed to get an 'all over' the body coverage.                            OR if you are constantly in a hurry and want speedy results... the Spray makes it  With the St Tropez Tanning Spray I can point the nozzle over my shoulder, rotating the spray can  back and forth and I always get total coverage all over my back. This is the same for anywhere else .. I just point and spray making sure to use long, even strokes... this allows for a perfect tan every time.                     Another thing to remember when using Sprays is holding it at a good distance (make sure to stay consistent to that distance) and move in slow. If you are holding it too close to the skin you will get very concentrated amounts too quickly and it will only result in a mess. (IMPORTANT: The Spray Tanners WILL make a mess! The residue will be going all around you even if you are unable to see it at the time. Your walls, floors and everything else will be covered. Make sure to lay down towels and use in an open area.

        MOUSSE
I have grown to love the Mousse Formulas the Best. I seem to always get the best results with less fuss and aggravation. Meaning... I can be very lazy when putting it on and it still turns out perfect. Even though the color of this formula looks very scary and dark, it has never given me the headache of dark patches on my knees, elbows and so forth. I think thicker formulas that have a darker shade are the ones that are so messy and stink and makes places look way darker than others. A Mousse is so light and thin yet their is ZERO MESS because of the Fluffy texture this formula has. .    All around -- I prefer this over any other I have tried.

        TANNING TOWELS
DR DENNIS GROSS TANNING TOWELS  are a must try! they have skincare properties that make my skin feel and look so smooth and soft it doesn't seem real! ( Check out my photos in the Full Review and you will see what I mean). I have tried  Kate Somerville Somerville 360-(TM) Tanning Towelettes  and another one called 'Tan Towel" I believe...  The Dr Dennis brand gave me the best results: the towel was more saturated and bigger in size so it covered more area than the others. With that said I felt like it still wasn't enough to get an even coverage all over. One isn't enough and 2 is too many, so this combined  with the higher price tag I feel like I won't go for these all the time...  unless I get a good discount price on them.

        INSTANT TAN (at home)
Maybe you are only wanting a bronze glow every now and then.. or you find out you have a party to attend last minute or a beach date to go on... This is when you need a very pretty tan, pretty darn fast. (Of course - if you just want to darken your already existing tan for the night, the Instant tan is perfect for that too)
Please don't put your trust in most of the wash off self-tanners out there. From my experience they come off way too easily. So if you sweat or any type of moisture or liquid comes in contact with your skin.. you're doomed! A disaster waiting to happen to a klutz like me.. a huge reason I do not go for a lot of 'fake out' beauty like: false lashes or extensions... yea I am the one those embarrassing stories happen to.                                      So if you are the same way and looking for one you can trust, make sure to try this DARK Instant Glow Body Spray by St Tropez. A lightweight body spray that gives skin an instant, evenly bronzed glow for a single night. Some occasions call for additional glow and what better way to get a night of beautiful bronze than with this formula created by the St. Tropez tanning experts. One Night Only is transfer-resistant and free of typical tanning agents, so you can apply-and-go without hesitation. This super-silky formula is infused with hydrating, softening oils to make your skin feel as beautiful as it looks.

        INSTANT TAN (In Salon):
Pick instant absorption formulas like the hand-sprayed St. Tropez airbrush service, ($65-$85) that soak right into the skin so there is no wait to get dressed. Just +Google  for services near you..
Also.. they have recently came out with some new all-natural spray tanning services that not only are better for you because of the natural ingredients, but they apparently smell amazing and have anti-aging benefits added in as well (and I mean a bunch of really good stuff !) .. i want !

How do you apply? What if you mess up?
Below are just a few things that has really stood out to me and I have noticed helps when I am using self-tanner (in no particular order). It may seem like a lot of things to remember but really it's not and it will take no time before you are slapping it on with confidence.
As far as the products I recommend in this article.. they are my 'product picks' for very good reason. Trust me I started at the drugstore with cheaper tanners and honestly had no interest in them for many years after that because they were so awful (could very well be a skin thing or body chemistry thing.. I just know they do not work on me). Since then I tried some better ones and saw how easy they are and that some do give natural and believable results. I even went back to the drugstore thinking maybe that 'all' formulas had changed over the years, but I still never had any luck. The ones I suggest are some of the only ones I know that look good enough to wear around everyday as a part of my 'look'. The others are not even worth it cause I definitely do not want to be perceived as the clueless girl with orange skin.
St. Tropez Tanning Essentials Tan Applicator Mitt
            $6.50
(Dot on Left is the Regular Tanning Mousse by St Tropez.
The Dot on the Right is the Dark formula by S.T. - really deep Olive Green color)
#1 The MITTthat you see in the photo is a wonderful and affordable item to have handy for

applying Self-tanner of any kind. This tan Applicator is like a buffer that will evenlybuff the product into the skin much better than our fingers can (sort of like a foundation brush works foundation into the skin -- the mitt and the tanner work the same ).                                       With that said... I like to wear a pair of disposable latex gloves to spread the tanner out when I first squirt it on. By using my 'gloved' hands I can make the -one dot- of St Tropez cover my entire arm and then I can start in with my Mitt to buff it all in. This also helps to get a thinner layer since the product is covering much more surface.

#2 No matter what type of formula I am using.. I always work in small sections, tanning one body part at a time. This is the best method because if a mistake is made I can immediately fix it since the product is still wet and can still easily be manipulated and has not begun to dry or set into my skin. .

#3 It is also best to apply the tanner in thin layersfor the most natural and even tan, just as you would a makeup product like foundation.                                                                           I like to use 1-2 pumps on each section for my first layer. I do this until my entire body is done, then I go in the mirror (in natural light if possible) and make sure that the color looks even throughout. This is the reason I love the ST TROPEZ DARK TANNING MOUSSE so much. It has a "Color Guide" formulated into the tanner so I can see exactly what kind of coverage and intensity I am getting. If I notice mistakes or places that are lighter- darker -etc.. I will know what I need to do as I apply my second coat.
(the color guide in the St Tropez Dark Tanning Mousse  is actually an Olive Green shade. I have heard so many girls dissing this product thinking that this was what the company was trying to sell them.. a green Tan? No. The only thing related to 'Olive' is the undertone, as is describes on the bottle. This is what makes the tan look so natural. This is the BEST one to go for as far as getting the perfect color and looking real. The color Guide can be rinsed several hours later to reveal a gorgeous 'beach-made' Sun tan! )

#4HARD to TAN PARTS! ... I use just a very light layer of Vaseline over my collar bone - elbows - hand and wrist bones - knees - ankles, heels and toes. These are the parts I notice on myself that will catch excess pigment and turn darker than the rest.  I have tried lotions and creams but I find Vaseline to be more effective IF it is applied right and in the sheerest layer possible where it is nearly undetectable.
After I have the rest of my body is covered in self-tanner,  I take whatever residue of the product I have left on my mitt and lightly sweep over these areas a few times. I know this is a very touchy area that can ruin the whole tan,  because if you leave them too light its very obvious but if you over do it and cause dark patches it looks even worse.. but the method I found has worked every time for the last year so it is worth a go!  As with everything else, going it light and slow is much better than over-doing it. If it turns out to be a little bit too pale then just go back over an extra time to match.
( I do not use tanner on my face very much.. I use RetinA and other chemical exfoliants everyday so it is pointless.. I just use makeup to match and it works out well so far!)

#5 We all have heard how to prep our skin and prevent streaking by exfoliating.  I use to have a hard time finding a body scrub aggressive enough without having an oil added in with it (like the Brown Sugar body scrubs)(having oils on your skin before applying tanner will prevent it from absorbing properly -- so check all your products to make sure they are oil-free or close).         Well.. now I use these Exfoliating Soaps from HeartlandFragrance.com (Glycerin Loofah Soaps). I tried one from a Glossy Box I got a very long time ago and it's all I have wanted to use since. I have tried to find something to replace it but nothing gets my skin as smooth as these. They come in all shapes, sizes, scents, designs, characters... and it is a very very nice smelling and soft sudsy soap wrapped around this very rough textured material. It will give you NEW skin, I promise. (Plus they are only 6.99)           Point is.. my skin or Tan did not look NEAR as good until I started using these to exfoliate with.
Just an EXTRA TIP:For the smoothest exfoliating results -- use your exfoliating product first and then follow up with your shaving last. The exfoliator removes most of the dead skin beforehand, revealing more of the hairs on your legs, so that way you are getting a closer shave, with smoother skin and both will last longer! I shave my arms too so I get the baby soft skin all over ;)

#6 If you are trying a new self tanner and are skeptical about whether it will work nicely on your skin.. Test it first. Choose a spot easily hidden and try out this area with your tanner. If you see that it works good then you can do the rest of your body with much more confidence.

#7 Do your own body contouring (and yes it truly looks believable!). Contour by "shading the shadows" of muscles. In  a full-length mirror, flex whatever you want to define (Ex: For a Calve, step on tiptoes) and add an extra layer of self-tanner to the shadow beneath your muscle.

The tan is on.. Now How Can it Last Longer?
We all want our tan to last as long as possible right?  Here are a few things you can do or avoid doing, to keep that healthy color going and going..

                FIRST 24 HOURS

                - Wear loose clothing so it will not be rubbing against your skin and taking off tan.

                - Avoid using anything else on your skin for at least 8-12 hours. The easiest way to do this is apply your tanner at night and hold off for as long as you can the next day  before applying lotion, makeup, showering etc. Even be careful when washing your hands. Try to restrict  the soap and water to the palms only or it will cause streaks and fading as it drips around your hands or even down your arms.

                - After I take my first shower after tanning I then use a Body Oil  or Oil-based Moisturizer which will seal in the tan for way longer than if no oil is used. Remember I said no oil before and this is correct because the oil would "prevent" the color from seeping into skin, but afterwards it works the opposite by preventing color form escaping due to activities - showering etc..  I use Oils on a regular basis to begin with because of how healing and moisturizing they are for our skin. They give a perfect glow too if you use sparingly !

-Stay indoors and do not do any activities that will cause perspiration

FOR THE REST OF THE TIME YOU WEAR YOUR TAN..
                - shower in Lukewarm water - hot water will strip and fade color.

                -  Use Alcohol-free moisturizer - Cleanser - etc..

                - Apply a Gradual Tanning Product/Lotion everyday to maintain color and help it to fade a bit more naturally. I use St. Tropez Tanning Essentials Gradual Tan Plus Anti-Ageing Multi-Action Face (as well as one for body).
These days they have loads of products and potions to slather on to extend tans, give a little glow, tanners for sensitive skin,  etc.. So also click to check thee out or browse your next trip to Nordstrom or Sephora...

                Closing:
IF you are just going for a temporary glow, then your color should fade even and naturally following these tips. I am someone who likes to keep my tan year round or at least during the whole of summer. I feel like like I look brighter and more healthy... so to maintain without going from light to dark all the time, I have formed a habit of doing my tanning routine every weekend so that it never fades out completely and like I mentioned before, I can do it so fast now that it is no trouble at all to keep up. Way less time actually than outdoor tanning or laying in a tanning bed.  But at the times we are out in the sun a lot while enjoying the hot weather..
I still get my tan on and form the tan lines.  I honestly can never tell the difference between what has been tanned naturally by the sun and what has came from a bottle.. If you want the real deal (or at least look like it anyway).. these Products and Steps are absolutely worth your time.. Happy Tanning!

MAC Pink Pearl Pop Cremesheen+Pearl Lipstick
MAC Pink Pearl Pop...($15) This Lipstick came out a few months ago with the MAC Cremesheen + Pearl Collection. This is a permanent line, so no need to rush to order because it, along with other really nice shades will be around for a while. It's  a very girly pink shade that gives me something different besides the same old muted, natural pink lip. It has a warmer under tone which makes it easier to wear..cooler tones tend to wash my skin tone out. This is not so bright either, that it's making me feel uncomfortable when I am up close to someone. A lot of times I feel like my lips are all other people can stare at when I have a brighter color on...but this shade is the perfect medium between a more natural pink and an in- your - face pink....which is perfect for a lot of girls I think.   The description on the MAC website describes this color as a frosted mid-tonal pink..but it is not frosty at all. (I never have liked frosty lipstick shades, they just look funny on me).  What sets this apart from other pinks, besides the nice warm undertone, is that it has a sheer application, but can be built up to a medium coverage if you want. Also my other favorite thing about it is it's shiny balm-like finish. (For darker lipstick shades I prefer a Matte finish, but for lighter colors I think a shiny, moisturized look is better). As far as the feel of the Pink pop..it feels very moisturizing and comfortable, which is a must for me when it comes to lipsticks.

There are a few other lipsticks that are pretty close to the MAC shade..the closest beingRevlon Perennial Pink Colorstay Mineral Lipglaze. The biggest difference would be the finish of them....the Revlon being a lot shinier due to the fact that it is a Gloss of course. What you could do though is take your finger and pat down the glossiness and end with  more of a sheen... Or if you already have the MAC Pink Pearl Pop, the Revlon Perennial Pink would be the perfect gloss to top it with if your one of those girls that has to wear both.

There are a few others on the same lines of the MAC, that have the same bright pink without being too over powering, and the nice warm undertone.

From Left to Right:  MAC Pink Pearl Pop, MAC Lovelorn, Revlon Lip Butter in Strawberry Shortcake, MAC Viva Glam Nicki, and Revlon Perennial Pink  Mineral Lipglaze. (the Revlon Lip glaze looks quite a bit darker than the MAC pink pop in the swatches but when put on the lips, you can hardly tell the difference between them)

The Cremesheen lipsticks from MAC is a formula I love and I find really nice to wear and feels good on the lips...But ..something to remember is these can be very soft in the bullet and you need to take caution when applying. If you do not apply with a light hand, the lipstick can shift inside the tube and make it where the product wiggles each time you use it and it can scrape against the sides and make a mess or it can even break off. They can also melt easily so make sure to store it at home or somewhere cooler (sucks I know!).     I do still love the Cremesheens well enough that I still purchase them. If you do have one to break on you, do not throw it away.  I save my little empty pot containers from deluxe skincare samples and I will press the lipstick down into the little jar and use it by dipping a brush in and applying that way... or if I want to just put it on with my finger I will take a Q-tip and dip some out. ( Not a good idea to re-dip your finger down into any potted lip product over and over again.. bacteria and germs..(shiver)..not good)

                Pros:

                • Very wearable for gals who are not use to lipstick and are wanting to transition over ...  it's sheerness, the balm-like stain, and the moisture make it very comfortable.
                • Light-weight and non-drying (a plus this winter)
                • The sheen makes it a very natural texture
                • The warm Pink Brightens up the complexion
                Cons:

                • The softer formula combined with the sheerness of the color..if you are very aggressive, it can rub up against the sides of the tube making it messy.
                • I wish it were a little more pigmented when applying, it' s almost like a Lip balm the first couple of swipes. (That can be a Pro or a Con for me, depending on what I want at the moment)
                • I only got a couple hours of wear time before I had to re-apply.

A lot of people consider it high-end but really it is sort of in between low and high end when you compare pricing...but the products are very high quality due to it being formulated for use by professional makeup artists.   Also just a tip that you may or may not know..if you find anything on the site that can only be ordered by a Pro with a makeup artist license, you can just call the MAC number and order it that way and they do not require your license number or whatever. (**UPDATE.. I believe almost all MAC PRO makeup is available on site now that anyone can purchase... there are a few things that are still exceptions that you can call to order ;)

GRUNGE REVIVAL - So 'Come as You Are'... the 90's are making a MAJOR COMEBACK (Part 1)

If I look back at my photos from the 90's I see a very simple style of faded-out ripped to hell blue jeans - thermals - wife beaters - Comfy old T's - thinned out Flannels - Doc Martins... and does anyone at all remember the chain necklaces with huge metal balls all the way around (I cannot think of what we called them to save me!), and I think it was around 98'-99' when I finally retired my ball chain necklace after about 3 years straight of wearing them and traded it in for more than a few ball studs punched all around my face and all over my body.
Switch over to today and my style hasn't drastically changed from the grunge that almost everyone rocked if you lived through that decade...It was almost unavoidable because it was what everyone wore ( or anyone that was cool enough to matter I guess). I do still see the true 90's grunge around from time to time but for the most part it has been reinvented into a more acceptable modern day fashion.  The Punk/Alternative kids of this generation i honestly doubt would rock the trend if they had to wear the actual clothes us kids wore in the nineties.

I am more than thankful for the Grunge comeback and the updated versions of my favorite style..     Because of online shops like Forever21, TopShop, JunkfoodClothng,NastyGal, FreePeople and
even places like Nordstrom... I, along with many other people, can enjoy the Grunge -like clothing while still being accepted in places other than WoodStock,  grunge band concerts or holed up in the room of whose ever parents weren't home or just didn't care how thick the cloud of smoke got  or how loud Marcy Playground was playing in the background...
"I smell Sex and Candy  yea.. ." Ha.. come to think of it that wasn't so bad to have our own group of teenagers that spent every waking day and night together no matter what.  If there was fun to be had, we had it together. If it was one of those bored-out-of-your-skull weekends.. we would be bore together.. although boredom with a grunge group doesn't stay boring for long because the most ridiculous and insane ideas were thought of to pass the time. Enough down memory lane though...

Alice in Chains - Smashing Pumpkins - Bush - Sound Garden
Anyone that is a true nineties grunge at heart knows and loves all the best bands from the highly popular decade. It was the 90's whenKurt Cobainmade being a grunge  cool and 'understood'... and it has been kept alive and carried through the years ever since.

I made at least 6 attempts to re-do this post trying to focus it all on  90's fashion and comparing it to today's'faux' grunge look, without sharing the music.  But since there would  be no true grunge without this Epic Music, I had to give credit to the people who shed a light on this unique fashion/ identity ... and ultimately made it acceptable in all different  social classes (for the most part).
Because of them I get to be comfortable and at least dress true to who I am.

Bands from the Nineties and grunge style...

                LIVING DEAD GIRL... !
It's hard to out perform THE Rob Zombie...

How could us 90's Teenagers not have attitude and Rebellion with these amazing Guitars  and Lyrics going through our heads.. ?

"Ooooh that smell...Can't you smell that smell.."(Lynard Skynard)...  Flannel button-up Shirts to Baby Doll Dresses--  from long, messy un-kept hair, to the strumming sound of a guitar being played by a Grunge... it smells like teen spirit to me. The defining Look and Sound of the nineties is making a major comeback... with a huge Grunge Style Revival
                Kurt Cobain - lead singer/guitarist
                Nirvana

Gavin Rossdale - Lead Singer/Lead Guitarist
                with Current BUSH Members
IfCombat Boots, Nirvana and the smell of a thrift store make you smile, you likely have a little grunge in you.   Not that a stranger would know it to look at you.

The grunge mode of dress is not an easy style to 'maintain' given its defining disinterest in all things remotely style-related. Still... grunge does stick around. It's even experienced renewed interest in the style blogs and campus fashions of those for whom "Come as You Are"is an 'oldie-but-goodie'.
(It is hard for me to imagine that I am at the age already that the music I listened to growing up is now an oldie to school-aged kids!)

For those of us who wore it the first time around though, the opening bars can make us wistful for that favorite stained plaid flannel and all it signified.

                Joie

I am proud to be me before the  grunge was cool -  and after the grunge isn't cool anymore... I am always still the grungy me.  This is one trend "I don't want to Come Back Down from"...;)

I have no shame when it comes to my love for the nineties.  From it comes my most memorable teenage years... my all-time favorite music, musicians, bands and celebs... my favorite styles head-to-toe and everything else...

I was loving the laid-back feel of "Grunge"when no one thought it was cool.
Some person  decided they didn't like it in the late 80's when it was becoming more popular among some groups...  and as usual the rest of the world followed trend.

Johnny Depp and Kate Moss debuted their
relationship an event in Hollywood and
                become icons of nineties style.

It wasn't long until a few (awesome as hell) celebs like Johnny Depp, Kate Moss,Gavin Rossdale and Kurt Cobain was stepping out at high profile events in things like;  Torn T-Shirts - ripped  jeans - bleach blonde hair - worn out leather - piled on jewelry (the cool kind, not the big costume kind),chains and piercings, tattoos.. you get my point.

But the difference is these gorgeous people made it look stylish ...  a way to express their inner grunge that was a part of who they are (I know for sure that Johnny Depp wasn't raised with Caviar on his spoon. He was not too far down the road from me... so his cool yet humble personality is no surprise. Not saying all people around here are like that but there are several that were at least raised right;).

Kate Moss has forever been an inspiration of mine... I adore her as does the majority of the world  I assume... but it was cool to see a super model like her, being herself in the midst of all these big time celebs and  clothing designers.
Kate's signature look has been the same look I have always favored and worn since I can remember. Over all these years no matter what fashion - makeup - or hair trend is taking over all the marketing and media.. I can always flip open a magazine-- see her-- and have at least one person I can relate to through having a similar taste and look.
Even if I seem to never fit "in" with all the other Females in the room, I can pull confidence from Kate.  Her classic rocker look of messy blonde hair - black winged or smoked eye and nude lip - and her dark and edgy alternative-like clothing.. she always looks good no matter what..

                Indulging your inner grunge...

doesn't have to mean going back to shapeless flannels and floral dresses, torn T-shirts and jeans that both knees come out of, plus big ol' combat boots.
(Immediately I think of a couple  pair of jeans and T's  I have in my closet  that I wore all through the nineties and the fabric is thin as paper, the holes are so big I would need a black out spot if photographed...OH and I also rocked the original Doc Martins.. Creeper sized! These would definitely fit the grunge look, but at 29 I've had to tone it down a little. I have owned some pretty awesome creepers in my day.. a few which I found at the Mall of America and I never once saw anyone else with my shoes.. ha I could never get away with wearing the creepers OR driving 15 hours to go to the Mall..  ;)
Thankfully, I can easily tweak those classically grungy elements into the look I love today.

                THE GRUNGE LOOK...
                "Come as you are..."
                1.   Never look too 'over' done.  Go for the Just threw myself together kind of look.
                2. Dip Dyed Hair ..Red. Pink.Purple Tips  or All Over Color (see collage below for inspiration)I like white hair too (like Gwen Stefani)
                3. Un-washed Bed Head is a classic trademark for a grungy feel but I suggest spritzing in some dry shampoo and texturizing spray on 2nd or 3rd day hair, for that natural sexy -wavy look.
                4. Worn -in clothing pieces. Shredded Denim, T's with holes  (7 for all man kind has T's that come already tattered and distressed).  Very loved Chuck Taylors. Vests and Button ups to throw over a tank or tee but make sure the fabric is either faded to a thin - sheer feel no matter if its new or old.
                5. Minimal Makeup with smudged Liner (goes along with the 'I don't care' or the 'I didn't spend hours trying to look perfect').
                6. BOOTS. I like a worn-in Petite Combat Boot, but any Boot Style brings the look instantly. Boots with a tall Heel, Wedge Ankle Booties ( to be honest I love Kate's 'Gum Boots' she wore at a festival- Smart lady). LINEN SLIP- ONS: Toms, Converse - easy chilled-out vibe
                7. Leather, exposed zippers, flannel button downs, Fitted Band or Logo T's or oversized -cut and shaped to your body shape or liking, thermals - particularly worn under T's -  Black - Lots of black.
                8. SUNGLASSES - On your eyes or hooked on your shirt is a classic 90's move. AVIATORS and WAYFARER are perfect. I think a Tan/Camel color lens or Black lenses look the hottest but the light colored lenses I see everywhere work too.
                9. Knit Beanies (all year 'round)
                10. Any Accessories -- Chains (petite/thin for women, thick for men). Brown or Black Worn Leather Wrap or Cuff bracelets, necklaces, hair pieces...anything you want and like. I like wearing pieces that have a story behind them... things I have picked up through just living life. It makes it way more interesting and real rather than wearing it cause it is 'pretty'.
                11. Piercings and Tattoos.
I may be a hot mess
                   but at least I'm not a shitshow,Right?

                12. ABOVE ALL..BE comfortable.. us grunge are never ever uncomfortable for the sake of appearance ;) and sexy can totally be found in comfort, just look at any survey or statistic.. men 'prefer' women at their most comfortable and natural state vs mini skirts, high heels, big- teased- stiff- hair.. I guess though some may be their most comfy in all that but my point is that just because your jeans fit right and you would rather rock a Chuck Taylor vs a Louboutin Stiletto.. it absolutely doesn't mean you aren't just as sexy. (I would take a guy any day that preferred a converse, now that is HOT... hell yea! ;)
These are the last pair of Converse I bought
for the Summer. I think I got them on

6pm.com for about 25 bucks off regular price.
These are the perfect shoe for warmer weather
and because they are low profile and petite
they look good with shorts or anything
                .

The Boots I got 2 years ago on sale at Kmart
for 12 bucks. I have worn the crap out of these
all through the winters and they still look good,
                especially for what I paid.
                KMart I find is a
Hit or Miss though cause I have not really found
anything of good quality or style since in my
local store.  But maybe Ill catch another
                deal like this one day.

I love the look on his face. I have this gift that maybe everyone has i don't know, but I can look at someones eyes one time and know a lot about them. The eyes really are a window to our souls.. but I also think you have to be in touch with your own soul to see and feel someone elses'.
This part is just a personal opinion and me basically being a turd but .. this is one of the reasons I started a blog.. to let people hear what I think ;)

There are no "rules"to a grunge look.. that is the beauty and uniqueness of it. Just so long as you are being yourself then you got it. One thing I like to do as far as accessories is take things that mean something to me and wear them everyday .. it becomes a part of meand not just something I picked up this morning to show off that day.
If you do not have anything that someone has given you or you bought at a special place or on a special day.. then find something you really really like for whatever reason and wear it constantly -- don't take it off-- soon enough you will form an attachment to it and feel lost without it (I think we all could find a little more meaning behind gifts our loved ones give us. My dad gave me so many little things that I didn't take care of and now that he is gone it would give me something to have between us still ...but we live and learn).

I agree that maybe at a certain stage in our life we need to clean up our tattered style a little bit, but I think having the Name brands/ designer clothes in our stores now- shredded up or blacked out into a punk look has confused a lot of younger people and they have missed the meaning and reason behind the Style..
It is a form of expression of who we are..and way more than just a fad or a trend. Maybe a social statement, saying, I would rather wear what I have got than to go buy and dress in something just because someone else or everyone else is wearing it or can only accept me if I wear it.  I have always felt like choosing your outfit or style based on 'fitting in'.. it kind of makes you look like an ass hole. . There is nothing wrong with liking new stuff.. just depends what the reason is behind it I guess, and it is not that hard to look at someone and know what that reason is really. .
True Grunge...it's an F* You .. I will NOT Conform to this world and look like an ass
hole.  Being who you are in your style is a much bigger statement than covering up your real self and blending in with the rest of the world. Stop hiding behind others and only knowing what they like.. When they are gone from your life and all that is left is YOU, how will you even know who you are? How will a potential life partner know you -- if all you ever knew how to do is be what the next person was? I know we are only referring to clothing and personal style.. but I think it says a lot about how we handle the other parts of our self too. This is  a good place to begin to learn to let go of others opinions and step off the train that carries the followers.. cause when the train ride is over --you aren't going to know shit. Drive your own train and just be you. "You" will never go out of style .. and neither will I.. our trend doesn't fade because we are the ones that invented it ;)

Gavin has several signature pieces and he is rocking one of them every time you see him.. the black wrap around his right arm is something he wears at most, if not all, of his live shows. He also has a leather necklace that I see him wearing all the time. I love that.. that is exactly what I was talking about before. It wouldn't be near as attractive if he just had a stylist or designer pick it out for him for the photo and then have a different one for every event etc.. yes.. that is definitely the FAKERS that do that !

Gwen Stefani is another awesome chic
I look up to and pull inspiration from. I fall in
love with her every time I see her...

                Perfect Inspiration...
Olive Colors - Army Greens - the whole shade range is a
go-to for me. Pair with white, black, denim.
Now if I could just get Gwen's hair color I would be totally satisfied.

In the nineties, there were faded-black shredded jeans, likely stained -  graphic tees  with gaping holes,  hoodies with half-unraveled cuffs.

Historically, damaged clothing doesn't make the fashion pages, but over the last decade, some designers have challenged that, showing shredded tops and slashed-up dresses that hint at grunge as high-fashion. But this is not willy-nilly, sloppy grunge. This isfaux-grunge

                Jolt Destroyed Boyfriend Skinny Jean
                15% off Now $44

Pieces are head-turningly torn, tears are interestingly placed, and holes act as counterpoints to an otherwise sleek ensemble.
This is an example of "holes" acting as counterparts.
With plain denim  this would be a very sleek outfit from head to toe, but the small detail
of distress in the jeans instantly makes the look more laid-back yet edgy.
This is something I do on days that I need to be a little more glam but being the personality I am, I cannot just do sleek all over or I feel out of place and like I am trying to be something I am not.

OR it is perfect for someone just wanting to add a taste of alternative edge without going overboard.
The distressed areas can also be transforming to a figure. I like a little distressing on the back pockets, which adds the tiniest bit of volume and accentuates my shape. I think a loose fitting boyfriend jean with holes around the knees (which is the skinniest part of our leg and the baggiest part of the pants), it can make the bottom half look more slim and in proportion with our top half. These are just a few examples of what detail placement can do.

In College I once had a guy friend of mine tell me that he had never saw anyone that
one day looked like the queen of the Geek Club one day  -- a Tomboy Hipster the next -- and the very next day look like I stepped out of Vogue.
I have so many different sides to myself..and i have discovered i dress each day based off of whatever mindset or mood I am in without even realizing it. I think there is nothing at all wrong with this as long as I am being true to me and not changing for other reasons.

So in other words... wear whatever you feel like wearing. Even if it is not your normal attire.. if it makes you feel good today, that's all that matters!

Every thing in this Collage above screams MYStyle...
All over Coloredhair is beautiful, I like it much better  than one or two steaks.
This is the perfect expression of individuality (plus it's just freaking HOT!).

The Eye Makeup in both photos looks so much like mine that it's sort of creepy..Haha.  Smooth Skin - natural brows - Cat shaped Liner on top and clean underneath.  I think Clean Cut - basic Makeup balances out a grunge look .   Or if I wear an outfit with lighter colors and softer fabrics..I will pair with it a heavier makeup look like;  soft black smokey eyes, smudged on both top and bottom lash lines.

Speaking of Clean and Simple clothing... the lower right outfit is my idea of a very casual grunge that I would wear for day or during work. Sunwashed Distressed Jeans - with a button top that dresses it up - while the light tan color keeps it easy and laid back. ..then bam.. Blood Red Patent Boots with that sexy sharp pointy heel.
If everything is put into BALANCE ... you can pull off any kind of individuality you want and it will still look appropriate no matter what 'background' life drops you in to.

Grunge is all about making your style about you. Individual.

There is no checklist or rule book.

I have always been a'Tomboy" at heart, so naturally I gravitate more toward pieces that could easily be unisex, which tends to fit more in the stereotypical 'grunge' category to begin with.

But I am a girl of many layers and sometimes I want to be more girly and there are many ways to keep the balance ... there isn't a piece of clothing in the world that can't be incorporated and transformed into your own personal version of it -- Whether it is dark colors, bright colors, white, floral, print, dresses, jeans... anything can work...

"Tomboyish" items  can be glamed up by using softer fabrics or by pairing with a pink lip, just  for examples.
Or another Example, a really "girly" floral dress can be toughened up by adding black combat boots  - black leather jacket - etc...

Their build, their skin, no makeup but beautiful, tattoos, un styled hair, she even use to wear little tops like this back in the day.  They both have this beautiful Grunge look going on and it is natural instead of created by clothes and makeup. +Lana Wagner  was born in the 70's which I would guess this girl was too so I bet they have even more than appearance in common.

Don't forget about your hair...    The sexy un-done Bedroom Waves are perfect for any look, on any girl and for any hair length. It looks natural and carefree... like you don't have to try at all.
First of all - I remember trying to achieve this look all through high school but i never could get the natural waves i wanted. Scrunching would create a funny triangle shape with round puffy ends and flat at the roots. A curling Iron would make me look prom ready and that is not the look for me. So eventually I did figure out what works for and it is very easy...

                HERE IS WHAT I DO:

                • For Just-washed hair, do not comb --- use your fingers to separate any tangles.  Run a Serum through from just below my roots to ends. I like to massage the serum in instead of just letting it sit on top of the strands. Working it in will help your hair to drink up those good ingredients and take down the ugly frizz in those really dehydrated parts.  (I love many serums but a good one is (Paul Mitchell Skinny Serum)
                • We don't want it to look too nice though, so adding in a good volumizingmousse and roughing it up a bit will create the messy look but without the tangles and frizz that normally come with.  ( My favorite volumizing mousse that I see a lot of visible results with is the Living Proof Full Thickening Mousse -Body Boosting Naturally Moving)
                • Next I take the blow dryer to the underside of my hair for maybe about 15 -20 seconds (blow dry longer if your hair is thicker). If I target this area only I notice it will add the volume from underneath  versus blow drying on top and the hot air puffing up the outer later of hair, taking away all of the defined wavy pieces..                                     (Extra Tip: Always finish your blow drying with cold air. I do the same every time I wash, finishing with cold water. You would be amazed at how much softer - smoother - less frizz when you sweat etc.. it makes a huge difference)
                • Wait until hair is totally dry.    Flip head up side down .. apply a few shots of light hold flexible hairspray (I like Aussie Flexible Finishing spray -- this gives hold with zero crunch and gives a little shine back).
                • Lastly--  I flat iron the 'ends' of my hair all over, leaving a just a few pieces here and there waved on the tips. I even do the ends of my layers and end s of my long bangs higher up on my head.  Otherwise .. not flat ironing my ends leaves them looking too poofy andround, taking away the natural look .. or I just don't like the look period. But straightening the last inch to inch and a halfwill get you the look you see on the Olsen Twins

                  And that is it...
                  • You can do this onsecond day hair or revivethis style on the second day by:

                  1.  spritzing hair with water from a spray bottle..
                  2. adding in a few dollops of your volumizing mousse ..
                  3. a shot of the blow dryer..
                  4.  hairspray ..
                  5. re-straighten any ends that need it  --
                  6. finger tease your roots back up and your done!

I have a MEN'S GRUNGE VERSION coming up in Part 2.. should I do a KIDS VERSION as well? After all, I am a mother to 3 boys that are already more Rock n Roll than some adults I know. They each have their own style.. one even likes collecting and wearing his little trinkets like Johnny Depp and Gavin Rossdale do.. so cute. I love that they wan tot be unique instead of looking like the other kids at school. Let me know what you think about putting together some grunge outfits for kids! I may even convince them to do it and Ill  share the ideas and pics of what they come up with.

*NEW* MICHAEL KORS NEW BEAUTY COLLECTION - SPORTY - SEXY - GLAM (2013)

                  $
                  0
                  0

Michael Kors took inspiration from the women in his family for his venture into the world of make-up.
                  THE WOW FACTOR...
“My grandmother was over-the-top glam — she worshipped at the altar of Elizabeth Taylor. She loved jewelry, she loved color, she loved pattern, and she was definitely a woman who liked to enter a room with lots of bravado,” Kors told WWD.
                  TRUE BEAUTY...
“And I then had the absolute opposite in my mother, who wore very natural make-up, very little print, was very laid-back and relaxed and sporty” he adds. “And then I think about my coming of age when I went to FIT. It was the moment of ‘What defines what sexy is?’ I thought about someone that was really full of confidence — if her skirt unwrapped when she sat? Not a problem. So, I think those three things — sexy, sporty and glam — have always been the DNA of Michael Kors” said Kors.
                  FOR EVERYONE...
But the designer doesn’t believe you are necessarily one or the other like his grandmother and mother. “In a strange way, the Michael Kors woman really is all three of those things — it’s just that she feels more strongly about one of them at certain given times. So I asked myself, how can we express that both with color and with fragrance?”
The answer is three distinct collections – Sporty, Sexy and Glam. Each has two lip lacquers, two glosses and two nail polishes
                  • Sporty is a palette of nude taupes;
                  • Sexy includes bold reds,
                  • while Glam is brought to life through deep plums and violets.
                  • There will also be three bronzers, self tanners, shimmer body oil and after sun (among other products), because the Michael Kors woman is always tanned.

What you won’t find are the basics like mascara or foundation,  these collections are about creating a look not stocking up your make-up bag with essentials.

                  Our Scent Defines...
There will also be a fragrance to sit with each collection –
                  Sporty Citrus,
                  Sexy Amber and
                  Glam Jasmine
Each fragrance is distinct but white flowers (which Kors has a special affinity are present in each scent, creating a subtle continuity between the three).
“It’s wardrobing in the beauty world the way I do in clothing and accessories,” Kors said.

From the Book:"Compelling People" by John Neffinger and Matthew Kohut

Offering practical advice for a range of common and challenging situations, this book shows you not just how people already see you, but how to make sure your best Qualities shine through.

The hidden Qualities that Make us Influential..."

                  Likability?      Influence?     "IT" factor?

Charisma may be hard to define, but according to a new book, it's surprisingly easy to teach.  In Compelling People: The Hidden Qualities That Make Us Influential (Hudson Street Press), John Neffinger and Matthew Kohut looked at what science says about the traits we admire most.
Here is a Crash Course from Neffinger...

Can you make yourself more charismatic?

It's not some mysterious thing that you either have or you don't. The two criteria are strength and warmth. When people seem strong, we respect them, and when people seem warm, we like them.

What is the easiest way to project those qualities?

The most basic way is to do what your grandmother told you: Stand up straight and smile. The more advanced thing is to master the 'knowing' smile. The eyes have a slight flex in the lower eyelid, which suggests that you are in on a joke.  Pair that with a relaxed smile, and it's very intriguing.

Does charisma differ between men and women?

Research on this is pretty clear: Guys have it easier. They are presumed to be strong, and if they also project warmth, that's even better. Not only do women have to get the balance just right, but they have to project more of both to get there.

                  Any other strategies?

Humor is both strong and warm -- it shows quickness and verbal acuity, and laughing makes us feel good. And people share vulnerability get credit for being brave. It's seen as strength.

Can 80's makeup Really be Hot in 2013?
The answer is YES thanks to MAC's Antonio Lopez Collection...

(WHO IS ANTONIO LOPEZ? A Famous Fashion Illustrator whom collaborated with prestige magazines like Harper's Bazaar - Vogue and Elle... and also created illustrations for luxury labels like Missoni - Valentino - Yves Saint Laurent and Versace. Though he passed away at the age of 44.. he work continues and will keep continuing to inspire. )
The late 70's and 80's brought us wild hair and even wilder makeup. But, the sleek-- 'new wave' influence the era sparked-- continues to be timeless, as evidenced by MAC's upcoming Fall Collection
As a homage to the late fashion illustrator Antonio Lopez, the brand will roll out a range of color cosmetics inspired by his muses. . .
Dubbed"Antonio's Girls", each product showcases one of his three Icons -- Jerry Hall, Pat Cleveland, Marissa Berenson -- and I am obsessed with its High-Octane Brights incorporated in the Eye and Lip palettes. This is our favorite shades at their BEST,  and not to mention packaging gorgeous enough to make even me glad to step away from my preferred - sleek, shiny black compacts..

Lopez's Collection also boasts Tawny Neutral options, and the Face Palettes are perfect for creating the sculpted cheekbones popularized by the new romantics of the time.
80's inspired makeup rarely goes mainstream, but since MAC's latest launch veers more toward Couture than Valley Girl, you can totally rock the look outside of Halloween.
You can find the Antonio Lopez Collection in stores and on maccosmetics.com on September 12
For now.. Enjoy the photos and pick out your favorites!

The NARS Eye Paints Collection for fall 2013 will soon hit the counters. The label has prepared 10 new, highly pigmented shades which can be used both as aneyeshadow and as aneyeliner. Naturally, the new options are inspired by the season's hottest trends. In fact, you might have already spotted them at various NYFW fall 2013 shows. Carmen Marc Valvo, Thakoon, Marc Jacobs or Alexander Wang are just a few of the high-end labels that used these fab tones on the runway, so if any of these looks caught your eye, you can now replicate the exact same makeup styles.

Why did the new NARS Eye Paints prove such a popular choice? Besides the immense statement making potential of these gorgeous tones, we think the answer most likely lies in their revolutionary formula. The weightless gel formulaapplies smoothly, dries quickly and delivers a long lasting color. Furthermore, these come in different finishes and are a permanent addition to the line, so if you've found your perfect shade in the new line, you won't have to go through the trouble of finding a similar option once you run out of product. And don't even try finding a drugstore match because the formulas will notcompare..

Ready to start shopping for new season beauty essentials? Consider adding these bold tones to your makeup kit:

                  NARS Eye Paint Shades ($25)

Selena Gomez was looking to keep it simple at the 2013 VMAS, so she hit the carpet in one of the hottest gowns I have seen in a while. Simple? Selena is the Queen of making Simple look Sexy
This beautiful young Icon stunned in a floor length navy blue gown by Versace. The gown featured a full length slit up her side, showing off her stems…and a little bit more. With subtle bling throughout, Selena was free to keep the jewelry to a minimum which is a look I think looks best on anyone. My favorite part of all though (and that I can't stop staring at), is the boldy lined, see-through bustier.. and the Peek-a-Boo added touch is what made this whole look so perfect.
Her outfit wasn’t the only thing subtle about her look. Gomez’s glam squad let her natural beauty speak for itself, keeping her make-up and hair equally toned down. A simple winged liner, a soft berry pout and who can miss that lustrous - shiny hair? This is definitely a look that serves her well. I say throw out the curling wand girl and keep this look around for a while!
This is exactly what being sexy and irresistible is all about and by looking back at Selena's past red carpet choices.. she has figured out this secret that many other starlets have missed  (we do not have to show it all from head-to-toe and pile on the pounds of eyeshadow to have sex appeal or be noticed ladies!).
And can anyone really go without saying this... Justin Bieber, eat your heart out!
Selena totally ROCKED this red carpet look. She wins BEST DRESSED 100 times over in my book. I would like to see anyone top this girl for the next decade.  Her simple beauty and her down-to-earth - cool attitude toward her career and all that has came with it... this Disney Princess has won my heart for sure. I will be rooting for her to surpass all the other young stars and their self-centered crazy antics and attempts for attention. They could all learn a thing or two from Selena .. and I would almost bet they all know that, so look out for the felines to start scratching. (hehe;)

WOW WOW and WOW...I cannot go without saying that Taylor Swift was rocking it tonight too. She has long been due for bringing out the edgier side to her style.

I believe there is so much more to this country girl that meets the eye. Maybe as she continues to let her skin thicken against the immature ridicule she gets for having a weakness for finding love.. she just might show everyone how much more powerful and strong of a women she is. I love seeing the good girls prove a point every once in a while-- You do not have to be a bad girl to look like one... and it sure does look awesome on her...

Now first of all we all know that theVMA'shas always been about letting loose and letting our musicians express themselves how they feel like. Some of the most memorable performances ever come from VMA night.
I think ofBritney Spears'many  too-hot-for-TV costumes and choreography, oh and don't forget the giant yellow PYTHON (now that is hottness folks) -- Lady GaGa'sBloody Piano Theatre show -- Lady GaGa's Meat? Need I say more?
So I am not at all surprised that  MILEY decided to at this years VMA's, after all.. this is her chance to really drive the point  into our heads that she isn't little Hannah Montana anymore... And that .. is precisely what she did.

I actually loved the fact that "+Miley Cyrus"  did something as Bold as cutting off her freakishly long and beautiful hair for a spiky punk 'do'. I loved her new attitude to not conform to 'her world' of young starlets  and said"Screw You.. THIS is who I REALLY am". Honestly I could not get enough of it. I wanted to know what she was wearing and where she got it. I wanted to listen to her interviews to see what she had to say, not something I particularly care about with any celeb whether loved or hated. I went through a similar transformation when my teenage self discovered that I can have my own mind,my own life and especially my own style no matter if anyone else likes it or not. I didn't care. So naturally I had a whole new respect for this Disney Star. ..    I mean.. who wouldn't want to shake that image when your trying to transition over into being a musician and wanting to be taken even remotely serious?

ButWHAT THE HELL HAPPENED?She went from COOL CHIC to WILD and CRAZY TEENAGER acting like she has just been let out of the house for the first time and is rebelling against everything she can think of that her parents taught her!

It seemed to really kick in after the 'Twerking Video' she posted went live to her +YouTube Channel earning millions of hits in record speed . It was almost like she finally found the exact attention she had been wanting all along because she has been wide open, trying every way she can think of to push the envelop and be noticed ever since.
But .. it wasn't quite the kind of attention I imagined this girl even wanting after the image she worked so hard to show to the world and the impression I got of what she was all  about underneath the Hannah Montana character. Wouldn't it be nice if the females could just pull some of the stunts that men do to be a friggin' hit at the VMA's? Does anyone remember Howard Stern taking the stage as "FART MAN" ?

Miley did something a little out of the normal with the You Tube video, she got a lot of love and a lot of hate but all in the same she got the worlds attention through her booty alone and she hasn't looked back! Can't say I blame her really since it will take her new album to the top where it may have never made it otherwise...but I was secretly hoping she would be one of the few female artists that made it through off of true likability and talent. -- Now she has joined the rest of the Pop singing crew...  You know the 'typical' Pop Star Look and tactic of using the female body - barely there costumes and outfits - super long hair extensions and lash extensions..you know what I mean.

OH WELL! EITHER WAY... I am rather amused. Just hide your children's eyes when she comes on stage... and maybe even your husbands too since it seems she has taken a 'liken' to them.

(Keep in mind that everything in this post is all in fun. I do realize it is showbiz and I almost bet there was a prior arrangement with the MRS  Robin Thicke before the show, or at least I hope. If not then whoa baby, major point deduction on that character goof.)

Is Miley a BEAR? Is Miley the Chuck-E-Cheese Mouse? Are those dancing Bears suffering from Glaucoma?  The world may never know...

Miley's newest "thing" with showing her tongue constantly may remind some of the ROCK LEGEND GENE SIMMONS(which I think any impersonation a star uses and keeps as her own, is a cheap and unoriginal move)... but honestly she makes me think of a baby or a small child when they are first discovering their body parts ..ie"her tongue". She found that sucker (no pun intended!), and now she just can't seem to put it back in her mouth.

And of course her TOOSH is another new discovery. I was proud in a way to see someone finally proving that white girls can bounce our little booties too ;) I don't blame her for cashing in on it's popularity but doing it  at what has felt like every appearance..
..we see you Miley may end up getting really old really fast..The video was enough. You hav5e access to the best choreographers that exist, it is time to use them to come up with some different dance moves aside from rubbing something back and forth between your legs, jumping, or bending over.

My favorite part of this whole disaster is the fact that the"TWERK GIRLS"got their deserved recognition and hopefully their 15 minutes will turn into a career ... at least one good thing has been produced from Miley's obsession with twerking that lil' booty! ;P

Let's stop a minute and just soak all of this FREAK SHOW in ... honestly I am at a loss for words.. Thanks goodness my youngest boys have not gotten to see these questionable photos because I have no idea what I would say.
May be I could just start singing the popular YouTube song "I'm a Gummy Bear, oh I'm a gummy bear.. taadodadodoedudmdum whatever!

Come On Miley... can't you give it just a little more time before you start doing all that... and no you are not MJ even if you  think you are. My boys still very much have the image of Hannah Montana in their minds and I think this is the most uncalled foe move of all.. DUDE.. .

Who else thought Robin Thicke was BEETLEJUICE at first?  That would actually be a  much better match for her.

The tongue. The Husband. The Booty..... this was her whole routine with him repeated over and over. Why is she even on stage with him again.? X X and X ...

And where the  did Miley go? Oh she is off to the side 'playing' with the foam finger

The looks on these celebs faces were PRICELESS.. especially the Will Smith entourage.. Wow... I am glad I am not the only one who thought the whole thing was inappropriate.

What do YOU think... all in all.. it is not me and not my life. If I were rich and scared my career could waste away after turning 18 I couldn't say i would be desperate to latch onto something like this too if it was working. I mean we are the ones giving her all this publicity so if we all hated it so much we should ignore antics like this, but of course it is easier said than done when it is shoved in our faces every where we look.

I think she is a very young girl with still a boat load to figure out even though she thinks she is mature way beyond her years. I was about 24 or 25 when I really realized a large amount of what I needed to in life.. I had already lived a very full life and experienced way too much by that age, but it took losing my Dad to really allow those life lessons to sink in and start  growing into who I am and not just always be what I thought every one else wanted me to be ..  Good Luck Miley Cyrus.. Hope you nothing but he best. Have fun while you can I guess ;)

                  HOW TO USE:

Shake well and apply to fingertips or a foundation brush for flawless coverage.

When it comes down to it, us ladies all want the same thing from our makeup. We want decent coverage to hide the flaws we have in our skin and we want to feel light and look totally natural.
However in reality, that picture perfect skin we see in magazines is the results of r really good, super-natural genes and a whole lot of photoshop. I have been on the other side of these gorgeous shoots before and the makeup is anything but natural-looking in real life. For us mortals it is impossible to walk around with these thick layers on everyday, so what we need are a few brilliant makeup products that will give us flawless skin with natural look - texture and feel...

HOURGLASS is one brand I have had repeated success with. I am always stunned by how high quality their formulas are and how incredible they make my skin look..

A long while back I talked about falling for the Hourglass Mineral Veil Foundation and Veil Primer...  but now take a look at the ILLUSION TINTED MOISTURIZER that has simply blown me away. This product has far exceeded my expectations of a mere Tinted Moisturizer...

Cameras are much more forgiving than you would think. I have major skin issues with uneven texture and tone, flaky skin plus oily spots,  breakouts, acne scarring, large pores, pretty much the works.. The 'baby' face of my teenage years no longer make up for these annoyances, so I have to be careful what product I choose to use.
The great thing about Hourglass products is they are designed to mitigate the effects of aging. Hourglass products contain ingredients that help tighten, lift and plump..all in attempt to turn back the clock (oh how I use to hate my chubby little cheerleader cheeks... now I just wish I had cheeks at all! All that is left is cheek bones!)

ANOTHER issue I tend to have with foundations is color matching. I always go ahead and order a couple shades to start with, but I could find no flaw with either of the shades I chose. In the end I kept the one a tad bit lighter so I have room to comfortably bronze and contour where I would like without the worry of  over doing it
Also with winter fast approaching the tan will keep slipping away :(
ABOVE is with the HOURGLASS ONLY. No Powder - Concealer - Setting products or anything else and this still gives perfect coverage for me.
I was so surprised by the coverage level that I had to go back and double check the bottle to make sure I had received the right product!
I actually own the Hourglass Veil Foundation as well and it is one of the highest coverage foundations I have ever used. The"Illusion"is almost like a lighter version of the Veil... which is what I presumed it should be but I never expected this type of flawless finish from a Tinted moisturizer alone since the majority, I have found,  will give the most minimum results.

(I look like a straight up weird-o in this shot but it captured one of my favorite things about this product which id the healthy look it gives me ;)

When I apply Illusion with a Foundation Brush (SIGMA F80 FLAT TOP KABUKI FOUNDATION BRUSH) .. I get a tad bit less coverage and a more matte finish. When I apply with my fingers and massage it in like I would a moisturizer (my preferred method).. I get a fuller coverage with a more dewy-plump - youthful finish.
Both methods disguise blemishes, sun spots etc..  It does well over my flakes and the good-for-skin ingredients it contains helps to keep my dryness in check all day, but it doesn't get overly shiny in my T-zone either.

I am in lust with the look and feel of the Hourglass Illusion. It hides even the largest pores that most foundations sink in to and highlight around my Tzone area.
It leaves the perfect amount of glow behind but it looks and feels dry, as if it were my bare skin.
At the end of the day I never find myself racing to the sink to wash my makeup off. Even though I have sweat in the hot sun, my skin stays comfortable and makeup remains intact. My powders and bronzers or whatever else,  always applies flawlessly over this base -- I think our first layer has a lot to do with how the rest of our makeup will apply and even look or feel throughout the day. Hourglass Illusion does an amazing job at giving me a perfected makeup look no matter what. This is exactly the type of product I expect to spend my money on and the kind I want at arms reach everyday so I can be done with those days where I feel my makeup looks awful or it feels nasty or it melts off at the first sign of change in weather..

Additional HOURGLASS Products I used and that I highly recommend as well are:

Hourglass Ambient Lighting Powder in Diffused (and the Hourglass Powder Brush as well)-- This is a powder I love for many reasons, one being that it gives me the parallel results I want of setting makeup without stealing away the beautiful finish of the Hourglass Illusion.

                  HOURGLASS VEIL FLUID MAKEUP REVIEW--
This is one of my HOLY GRAIL Foundations simply because it literally gives a flawless look no matter what condition my skin is in that day. Besides that-- it is loaded with ingredients that my skin loves and it works to treat my skin all day as I wear it.. Click link to see closer and find out more!

The topic of drugs may seem a far off relation to beauty and fashion .. but actually it can
be a more related topic than you think. It all has to do with following trend. Getting - Having- Doing the next best thing the world shows and offers us. As we get things like Clothes  jewelry, shoes, makeupMiracle Skin Creamsthe Fountain of Youth and Skinny Pills solicited in our faces everywhere we go --  in magazines, T.V., music, You Tube, Word of Mouth -- the strong influence is unavoidable yet many of us never realize the power it has over our own minds or worse, our children's minds.
But not only that there is sex, drugs, religions, identity's and attitudes gently forcing our desires as well.

I speak so confidently because I have done my fair share of living careless and partying with the wildest human beings I've ever met... getting high on whatever was laid in front of me. It is all about living full force .. no limits... anything for the intense high and adrenaline rush. A kind of party that seems to bond whoever is a part of it together even if you just met... it gives you those intense feelings of everything positive that you never felt without it (but I ensure you that the party does stop if it doesn't kill you first and then you realize the bond so strong was actually a false illusion, along with everything else too)

But the difference is that yesterday'sLSD's - KETAMINE - COCAINE... is somewhat different than it is today. Even though that wild and Free girl is long gone (or what I thought was being a "FREE SPIRIT" at the time), I still look around and the younger generation of party- goers coming up and dealing with a much more sketchy and certainly more dangerous world than I ever had to blindly and naively face.

Along with drugs not being as pure as they once was now that the world has become ..lets just say more desperate and cold .. than it use to be, but also because people are bored with the same old ways and are coming up with a new mix of drugs that will take you higher, faster, last longer-- and people are partying until their hearts stop... literally

For a couple Electric Zoo partygoers, the fun went too far.

The third day of New York City's Electric Zoo music festival was canceled by the mayor's office this weekend, followinthe tragic deaths of two twenty-something revelers

The annual Randall's Island festival typically punctuates the end of summer, drawing more than 100,000 ravers to a dusty, pulsating bacchanal featuring multiple stages and DJs blaring bass-heavy electronic dance music, or EDM. According to police reports, the victims — 20-year-old Olivia Rotondo of Providence, R.I., and 23-year-old Jeffrey Russ of Rochester, N.Y. — allegedly overdosed on "molly," a potent, supposedly "friendlier" form of MDMA used by millions of party-goers every single year. Here's what you should know about it:
                  What is molly, exactly?
Its chemical name is methylenedioxymethamphetamine, but it is more commonly referred to as MDMA — the active ingredient in the party drug ecstasy. It was first synthesized in 1912 by German chemist Anton Köllisch, but usage of the stimulant didn't really begin taking off until the 1970s, when pharmacologist Alexander Shulgin resynthesized the chemical to share with his friends, particularly psychotherapist Leo Zeff.
Zeff extolled the drug's anxiety-alleviating virtues as a means to get therapy patients to reveal their most buried fears, and was said to have trained 4,000 therapists in how to use it. The drug soon found its way out of psychotherapy and onto dance floors all across Europe, where it immediately became a hit.
Whereas ecstasy is frequently combined with other, potentially more dangerous drugs — including speed, ketamine, or even LSD — molly is a fairly recent rebranding effort that is said to contain pure MDMA. Molly is often ingested in a powder of crystal form, and is available illegally for $30 to $50 a dose.
In The Drug Book, Michael C. Gerald writes that the stimulant "produces euphoria and physical energy, increasing feelings of empathy and intimacy with partners" that makes users feel as if "all is right in the world." The National Institute on Drug Abuse says this is accomplished when MDMA binds to serotonin transporters, which alters the brain's neurochemistry. From a psychological standpoint, this can result in (temporary) heightened perceptions, elevated mood, reduced appetite, and a prolonged burst of energy.
"It makes you really happy," one molly user tells the New York Times. "It's very loose. You just get very turned on — not even sexually, but you just feel really upbeat and want to dance or whatever."
Where did the name "molly" come from? The name is thought to have been derived from the word Times that the term wasn't really used before 2008. Since then, molly has been "very much glamorized in pop culture,"says Payne. References to it have appeared in songs from artists as far-ranging as Kanye West, Rick Ross, Miley Cyrus, and Madonna.
"molecule." Rusty Payne, an agent at the Drug Enforcement Agency, tells the
How dangerous is molly, really? The averse long-term effects of MDMA on the brain are still the subject of intense debate among clinical researchers. A notable 2003 retraction in Science said that an alarming study previously published in the journal that suggested a single tablet of ecstasy could cause irreversible brain damage was, in fact, "nonsense." In 2009, Professor David Nutt at Bristol University wrote in an article published in the Journal of Psychopharmacology that the long-term damage of MDMA has been grossly overstated: "There is not much difference between horse riding and ecstasy."
Which isn't to say the drug isn't without its dangers. Gothamist reports that Rotondo reportedly took six hits of molly this weekend before she fell into a seizure and died.
In 2011, hospitals across the country reported more than 22,000 MDMA-related emergency room visits, which according to the Drug Abuse Warning Network, is a 120 percent increase from 2004. In The Drug Book, Gerald writes that MDMA can make users overstep the body's natural limits:
After nonstop frenetic dancing for hours in hot, crowded surroundings, some participants experience hyperthermia, a dangerous rise in body temperature that can cause kidney and liver failure. Drinking excessive volumes of water, coupled with dehydration due to sweating, can cause a steep drop in blood sodium levels, potentially resulting on confusion, delirium, and convulsions. [The Drug Book]
Users coming down from MDMA often report feeling depressed, anxious, and fatigued. Mislabeling is also a risk, since molly is illegal and users oftentimes can't tell the difference.

Young people "will often mix ecstasy with other drugs, especially at parties, like alcohol and marijuana," Dr. Damon Raskin, an addiction specialist, tells CBS News. "I think that the combination of these drugs makes them all the more toxic."

                  • Eye Pencil – Retractable Eye Pencils, in 5 colors
And also launching together with the Fall collection in Singapore:

                  • La Petite Robe Noire EDP
                  • Meteorites Perles in LE packaging

                  Rouge

All 3 of the New lipstick and lipgloss colors look Fruit-inspired and delicious for my lips this fall...

Some may complain of the weight of the packaging but I actually appreciate the heaviness of a product like this because I feel it adds to the luxuriousness. I couldn't imagine such a high quality formula and brand having a cheaper or lighter packaging.  It comes with a mirror, and the design of these limited edition swiss veil printed casings for fall 2013 was supposedly done by the designer for LV!
The Red (861) is my favorite. I love to wear red on my lip but it is near impossible to find a true red in a more sheer version. I have plenty of heavy -opaque red lipsticks, so the Madame Flirt was exactly what I wanted and needed for my own collection.

                  Gloss

Although I am not big on sparkles in my makeup... these have a nice balance that add the right amount of lustre without looking grade school...

                  Eye Pencils

Guerlain’s eye pencils are a new addition to the family, and these retractable eyeliners come with a sharpener at the back (pull it out from the back of the pencil!) if you prefer sharp liners!
I think these pencils have less waste than wooden pencils and the creamy formula is great! And the colors are the best part... plus paired with a formula like this! In love!
These are somewhat smudge proof and semi-water resistant. If you shed a tear or take a dip, just be sure not to rub.

                  Duo Eyeshadows

These duo eye shadows are new, and will be permanent to the Guerlain make up family! Each eyeshadow duo is housed in an elegant case and contains two colors of different textures – a shimmer/glitter eyeshadow color, along with a matte shade! Also included in the duo is a sponge tipped brush.

I have honestly never laid eyes on such perfectly matched shade pairs in my life. I always get so tired of buying shadow duos for only one color.. but finally someone done their job right and this part of the collection has simply blown me away. Eye Shadow Duo sparked  an idea or a memory... even something as simple as makeup should inspire, especially at the price we pay for the high end brands such as Guerlain..
Enough with the jabber-- now take a look at these pigmented lil' DOLLS! GORGEOUS.

                  Wow...

Even two unexpected colors can make the dream match in makeup. Or taking two colors that may be blah on their own can be brought together for an amazing look.

Believe it or not I am far from being a girly girl.. but something about these two shadows make me want to look like one every time I see them... and this duos name couldn't be more perfect!

What a perfect pair for the eyes to create a  sexy- smart night out look. The richness of the black color will add a smokiness that is alluring but never harsh. And the sparkly highlight will only add to the effect. Whoa baby .. too hot!

I am sure I am not the only one who thinks of mermaids when it comes to these shades. I would use the lighter color all over up to the crease and the darker one as a liner and/or faded into the outer corner of the eyes. It almost reminds me of a mystical look but the intensity is balanced enough that it doesn't look too 'over-the-top'.
Although... if you wanted to do a more intense look with any of the colors shown here today, all you would need to do is add a shadow base like the NYX Pencil in Milk. Or even dampening the tip of your shadow brush a bit will give more opaque results for a super sparkly, enchanted feel. ;)

The "Two Spicy" Duo reminds me of a fall sunset or the burnt orange colors the leaves change to as the air turns crisp.

                  La Petite Robe Noire EDP

La Petite Robe Noire has released an EDP sibling...The EDT version of this seems to be going backwards (I think they recycled the bottle shapes) and it brings back the 2011 LE bottle (which was only sold in Paris, I believe) of the scent. The perfume is still sweet and sensual, but this time round things are darkened with of black liquorice in place of liquorice, black cherry and black tea, as well as Bulgarian and Turkish roses. The EDP has more complexity than the first scent, and I’ve yet to test drive the scent so do drop by Sephora and check the scent out for yourself!

If you are a male and just clicked on this photo.. how many of you just got turned on my the man pictured above looking more womanly then most women.. ;) lol... bet your ego just got knocked down a  notch or two!

Twenty years later, the original drag queen/ supermodel returns to the campaign that made him famous as M.A.C launches this year’s VivaGlam lipstick andnew matching VivaGlam lipglass($18, both available on September 12 at maccosmetics.com). As usual, all proceeds go to those living with AIDS.

Since the first campaign was unveiled in 1994 (featuring that beautifully creamy shade of deep red), we’ve come to anticipate each new launch. Needless to say, we’ve never been disappointed. But the biggest thrill came last month, when we found out RuPaul was returning to front the one that started it all: Viva Glam 1.
Now renamed Viva GlamThe Originaland accompanied by a limited edition matching Lipglass—the duo hits counters September 12 and will remain available through December 12, plenty of time for you to visit your nearest MAC counter for a little feel–good retail therapy.

A few things RuPaul himself has to say about the relaunch...
The original VivaGlam campaign shoot was a terrific workout.
“It was interesting because I had to put my body in all these weird positions for an extended period of time. I had a kink in my back and all these muscles were aching that I didn’t even know existed. I’d shoot several different set-ups to make up the letters, a day like that is probably 12 hours. The boots were the fun part.”
He misses the 90s glamazon supermodels.
“I long for those days! I’m always looking for a re-emergence of those types of girls. There are few of the new girls who almost get to that level, like Karlie Kloss, Joan Smalls and Karmen Pedaru, who’s fantastic.”
He’s not into celebrities taking models’ jobs.
“I think a lot of things have to change. I think our culture of celebrity obsession isn’t done yet. Big Hollywood actresses have campaigns for moisturizer and hair care—Julian Moore is now at L’Oreal and Jennifer Aniston has that Aveeno campaign—a lot of the things that would have gone to models, Hollywood actresses have snatched. I like glam in the umpteenth degree and, I’m sorry, no Hollywood actress could touch that except Angelina Jolie and Charlize Theron, they’re the only ones that have that over the top beauty.”
He was not at all surprised at his success and career longevity.
“I’ve done morning drive radio, I’ve written a book, I’ve produced TV shows, done acting, you name it. But that’s the name of the game in any profession, you have to be the jack-of-all-trades.”
He believes everyone has a drag superstar in them.
“You automatically stand out from the crowd, there’s nobody else like you. Everyone has a frequency that is unique but it’s up to you to find out what it is and to turn it to full volume. When I got into drag and got all dolled up, I witnessed a power I didn’t know I had. I think that’s true for everyone, it’s the Superman to your Clark Kent.”

I am very happy to see the VIVA GLAM 1 campaign making a comeback.. this is more than just any lipstick (obviously or they wouldn't bring it back in such a big way ;)
This lipstick started a revolution and I have to say, it's probably one of MAC's most universally flattering shades ever. Of course I have my personal MAC Lipstick Favorites like:"Pink Pearl Pop", "High tea""Candy Yum Yum" ,"Cherry" "Sublime Culture"..
but this cool, burgundy red looks stunning on anyone and everyone. In need of a  classic, red lipstick? Look no further than this one --

*Just for reference... photos are mixed up throughout the review. I have some pics of me wearing the mascara in beginning and middle but there are also some larger Pics toward the end, as well as Before and Afters - to give you a closer look at the product's results... Have great day everyone!
                  Lashes do a 360
Now THE FALSIES GLAM goes full circle.
2x MORE IMPACT for BIGGER EYES...

Revolutionary dual-ended mascara for 360' all around Lash Glam.
Two brushes specifically designed for Top and Bottom lashes.
Special quick-dry formula holds lashes in place.

                  UPPER BRUSH IMPACT
Pushes Upper lashes Over the Top.
(True. Gives awesome length. And it is in a flattering way .. some lengthening formulas can leave the tips of my lashes stringy - spidery or uneven.. The BIG EYES Mascara adds length without sacrificing anything else.)

Volumizes Top Lashes Corner to Corner.
(True. Very few mascara brushes reach from corner to corner on my wide/slanted shaped eyes .. so I am very surprised indeed that this New Maybelline formula does the extra work for me. I always have issues with the inner and outer corners becoming crossed, over- saturated, heavy and droopy, which causes my eyes and entire face to be pulled down --- not exactly the look I ever go for since this tired girl needs everything to be opened and lifted up !  ;)

                  LOWER BRUSH IMPACT
MICRO-BRUSH grabs every tiny bottom lash for a full-circle effect.
(True. I very rarely wear mascara on my non-existent bottom lashes for the very reason that most mascaras do not work well on the sparse lower part of our peepers... or I simply have a preference for all my products to be focused on the upper portion of my eyes for a more intense defining and shaping of my particular eye shape. But of course I would love the option to switch it up and create new looks --and the teeny tiny round shape of this brush and wand does exactly what I need it to. As stated above ... instead of only grabbing the 3 longest bottom lash hairs I have, it grabs lashes that I didn't even know existed! YET.. it is not so saturated and over-the- top that it drags my eyes down or looks crazy and unnatural on me. Perfect Job Maybelline.

The Lower Lash Micro-brush magnifies every tiny bottom lash edge to edge.
(True. I agree that it looks as if my bottom lashes have been subtly magnified to stand out and look like they should. Nothing more, nothing less. )

WOW! True statements throughout the advertising and marketing ... great job Maybelline! I am truly impressed...
This is Maybelline's FIRST EYE-OPENING Double Brush that AMPLIFIES lashes a full 360'!

                  MY RATING:
                  *****

PROS: Affordable.. results exceed the cost of the mascara.
Creates Length and impact without weighing down lashes.
The light and natural formula gives me the long fluttery lashes ... which opens eyes - making them appear larger than normal.
The quick dry formula is awesome for us that want to layer and build because wetter formulas sometimes clump.
Dual-ended brushes allows for options and saves time from switching between two mascaras..
The Waterproof version I accidentally ended up with was a mind-changer about "all" waterproof formulas being horrible for me. It turned out to be a bonus  having the extra protection against running or smearing.  It was not a huge pain to remove either

(I use the Equate version (Wal-martbrand)  of the NeutrogenaEye Makeup Remover in the light Blue bottle. I have tested removers against my past favorite brand of eye makeup remover - Lancome- ad the Neutrogena seems to have identical results. Following that I discovered Equate'sversion does as well.. Save some moola ladies!)
I loved the added security of the click-lock closure on both ends of the wand. This is a common mistake in packaging with many brands and no matter how much product is in the tube, without an airtight storage it is going to dry out quickly and too much money is wasted , especially on ones that cost $30 +. The Maybelline BIG EYES makes a click sound when you have the lid tightly closed so that at least you know you did your part to keep the formula nice and fresh for as long as possible!

                  CONS:
Both brushes (bristles) are very weak and it takes a lot of time to reach the kind of impact and opacity I want. It takes more pressure and strokes than other mascaras I use.
The quick dry formula is a Pro in the way I mentioned before.. but it also has its Cons because it seems to be already getting too dry even though I have used it only a week or two. I notice myself swirling the brush around in the tube trying to get as much product as I can and it still doesn't seem to ever be enough for a single application (or maybe I am too spoiled with using the thicker-wet mascaras? There are definitely pros and cons to each kind).
Also... while having two different brushes to use is perfect, it leaves room for less product in its packaging and this mascara will not be lasting us a very long time at all.

I decided to purchase the Brownish Black shade simply because I have been more into using browns to enhance my eyes during the work week ( a step lighter than black is less harsh and works much better for daytime)

At first I thought it still looked very dark and wouldn't be much of a change from my normal black, but once I got into the natural light I noticed a big difference not only in my eyes-- but the overall feel of my makeup. .
It appears to make my eyes stand out even more since it allows them to keep the focus and attention...   Of course, even though Black  Mascara will always be the 'most' gorgeous on lashes.. when spending an extensive amount of time working in natural daylight , I have noticed the layers of Jet black makeup can be the first or only thing I see (and this is especially true for longer lashes like mine. Black can be harsh or unnatural looking and from my experience it will highlight any sort of flaw my lashes have or any mistakes I made while applying. Haha.. not always good for someone like me! )

So.. using the brownish-black coloron my lashes has been a pleasantsurprise and makes me feel a little less self conscience with wearing a heavier application ... I get the volume and definition but in a slightly less noticeableway :)   The lovely shade -- matched with the Maybelline BIG EYES Formula -- seem to be a match made in heaven for the look I have been searching for.

The side of the tube holding the Upper Lash wand has a mid-size brush wrapped in semi-soft bristles to coat and darken the lashes with this unique instant-dry formula,  while maintaining the integrity of their natural shape and super light weight.

It covers my lashes with defining color from root to tip - edge to edge... adding darkness to highlight and enhance eye shape... but does so without the thick- heavy coating of a regular mascara. Because of the quick-dry quality, I am able to quickly apply as many layers as I desire with no waiting for the previous coat to dry or worry that I will make a hot mess and have to start over.
This has definitely prevented mistakes and flaws in the final result (not to mention the unavoidable frustration)... because as most of you girls more than likely do-- I do not allow a wetter formula to totally dry on my lashes before adding the next layer. This is where the nearly un-fixable spider lashes come in.. or the lovely clumps that send each frail little lash drooping south for the rest of the day! I have definitely enjoyed the freedom of having one less thing to work against me trying to keep my eyes wide open through the work day.
The first thing that came to mind when I pulled the lower lash brush out of the tube was how much it looks like Cliniques mascara for bottom lashes. If I am not mistaken, Maybelline's is just as small but longer in length.. which is not a bad thing at all in my book because it reaches from "edge to edge" in one flick
The ideal brush size and length, paired with Maybelline's new and unique formula, makes for a gorgeous bottom lash look that seems almost to good to be true and too easy to achieve. Which is something I find to be a rarity in the makeup product world.  So even though I am not a dedicated fan of major lower lashes.. I am very happy to have myBIG EYES to rock the look whenever the mood strikes and know it will be done in a way that looks very classic and flattering for me.

The Top photo represents the COLORof the formula a little better...

In the past I would have never thought of using anything but black mascara...  But after seeing how equally flattering a more natural shade can be, I find myself going for my Taupe Eye Pencils and the Brownish-black mascaras for an easier-to-wear makeup look that makes my features look just as nice but in a very different way than darker colors do.

Plus it is way easier to maintain  ...touch ups are nonexistent becauseany changes that wear and tear or weather (etc) brings on throughout the day is barely noticeablecompared to the obvious smudges, streaks and fading of a black.

(DO not get me wrong though, there is just something about a super black liquid eye liner or mascara.. I refuse to live without them and still wear them on a regular basis. It is just nice to change it up and show a different side of beauty and makeup too)

The swatches above I decided to share to show the difference in results of the two brushes

The Lower lash, even though it is much smaller, leaves behind a more solid and opaque application of the product.   The Upper lash has a lighter result which explains the more natural results I get.

Something very cool I discovered doing this ...when product was on my hand (even in this very large amount), it was only seconds before it set and when I rubbed it at different times throughout the rest of the day, the mascara never moved a bit
With that said... since I have owned it a week or so now, I also noticed that the waterproof part doesn't always apply with every application.  Depending on which foundations or concealers I used along with the Maybelline BIG EYES.. determined whether or not I would see transfer on my lids and under my eyes. I still have to make sure to prime, powder and set everything really well around the eye area or before I know it I glance at myself in a mirror and see black spots across my lid where the tips of my lashes touch, this is the same for the bottom as well.
SO .. do not think Waterproof means impossible. On my dry hand it was waterproof.. but added to an area close to where I have used moisturizers or makeup products with a moisturizer in it, it still didn't prevent the dreadful black eyes! So a tip to use when you are needing a guarantee flawless face for a long period of time -- just avoid heavy creams around the eye area and I even avoid any makeup products that use the word "dewy" or any other word associated with moisture. This should make all the difference in how long things like mascara and eye liners last whether they are waterproof or not.

Lady Gaga has seemingly been everywhere lately thanks to the release of her first ARTPOP single, Applause,” a retreat to upstate New York to practice the Abramovic Method, and a starring role in the latest trailer for Robert Rodriguez’s Machete Kills – not to mention a forthcoming performance at this year’sMTV Video Music Awards.

                  PIN UP GIRL... ;)

Now, following a preview back in July, Gaga appears as the cover feature for the latest issue
of V Magazine.  Ms. Germanotta appears in a series of shots within the issue wearing just a tank top while one image even sees the POP ICON ditching the top altogether. V Magazine issue 85 is hitting newsstands nowwhile Gaga’s ARTPOP is set for a November 11 release.

Lady Gaga for V Magazine by Inez van Lamsweerde and Vinoodh Matadin
Thought you'd seen Lady Gaga's new V Magazine cover shoot? Wrong! The photos of the pop princess in a bouncy blonde wig which circulated last month are just one of a set of four spreads to go with four different covers and four different interviews by artist Marina Abramovic. All of the images were captured by photographers Inez van Lamsweerde and Vinoodh Matadin and according to V...'Gaga considers each cover an extension of herself, representing her at different stages of her life.'
I am not sure which stage the second set of pictures are meant to represent, but on the cover the singer is seen undoing her skinny jeans, and clutching at a naked breast underneath a red, sequined, cropped jacket. Her dark wavy hair is wet and disheveled, but her make-up remains similarly minimal, except in the still where she is completely in the buff and appears to be smeared in boot polish - from Lady Godiva to Lady Muck.
This is just the latest step in the New Yorker's blazing comeback following hip surgery and the cancellation of her Born This Way Ball Tour earlier this year. Below we've broken down her reinvention from minimal makeup to bizarre YouTube uploads...
The expression on her face in the left pic above is amazing.. it's a 'real' reaction and emotion. Love it.
                  MY FAVORITE COVER...

Wow... doesn't she look hot? One of the only chics that can pull off a hooker ensemble and look this good..!
                  MORE about ARTPOP...
The singer announced on her social networking site, littlemonsters.com that she will be launching an App called ARTPOP which she describes as, “a musical and visual engineering system that combines music, art, fashion, and technology with a new interactive worldwide community — “the auras”…- a reverse Warholian expedition.”

The App will supposedly, “Explore Gaga’s existence as a cultural interface, allowing the user to share in the ‘adrenaline of fame’.”

She also revealed that the first single from her album, also titled ARTPOP was released on August 19'th, while the album itself will be available forpre-order on September 1st and will be released on November 11th.

Lady Gaga (NEW) - Applause - Official Music Video

This is my favorite photo... she looks natural and beautiful of course. I have always felt like she hides behind her stage personality too much... although I can't say I blame her or that I wouldn't do the exact same in her position. I just wonder what the true girl is like underneath .. I bet she is one cool, down-to-earth chic to hang with once the costume comes off  (she looks just a little crazy but only because she is damaged from life and the past -- but with a beautiful heart.. much like myself... :)
There are many more photos to be seen and yes...even more of her gorgeously shaped nude body. I say bravo for her because I know for someone like her who is usually hidden behind layers of makeup - fabrics - veils - and everything else-- it had to be very hard to go down to absolutely nothing at all and  put it out there for the whole world to examine and pick her apart from head- to- toe. I think she is perfect and I do not see how anyone could have anything else to say.

I strongly believe that through media - advertisements - marketing - technology - and living a lifestyle where we have everything at our fingertips so readily available that we have become spoiled--- and maybe even a little lazy. We don't ever have to wait or put forth much effort to accomplish pretty much anything we want on a day -to-day basis.... Through living like this we have let our minds become programmed to think that our energy, health,  having smooth, clear skin, losing weight or curing sickness should come in a fast acting cream or pill.. (Why do they do this? It keeps us running to the doctors -dermatologists, plastic surgeons or med spas - in the sores buying the latest magic potion and so on)
The marketing teams of America have us believing the majority of our health- aging and weight is out of our hands due to factors such as genetics, dna, brain chemicals, body build or something I use to think myself, lack of wealth--- and that could not be further from the reality. I believe it is very important to know the truth about how our body works and also to know the foods that our body responds immediately to and will work to keep our health in top shape- -  OR at least we will have the knowledge and the option to live a better quality of life.
Even though I am still young at 29, I have been very cruel to my body in the past and I am starting to see major changes take place in my outward appearance -as well as my inner health - how I feel,  even how my body repairs and heals itself. I have watched my skin gain more visible damage in one year than it has my entire life.        I have lost half of my natural muscle mass in the past year when before I never even had to work out to have my natural athletic build - the shape and contours of my face has changed - the tolerance of my body inside and out has weakened and can't 'take' what it did just over a year ago (everything is more fragile) - and every single bit of this change leads back to MY DIET.  I eat the same as I always have but as you may know already,  when we are young our bodies can tolerate much more than it will as we age. And for whatever reason age 28-29 has been my magic number and my body said "okay .. I'm done working so hard!"  So... since I refuse to believe it's over, especially at this age, It is now time to start helping out a bit...
Having read a lot about these things over the years and have even went back and forth trying to get an early enough start on it to prolong any aging and health issues that are to come,   I already know that there are common foods and resources that act asnatural medicines for our blood and bodies inside-and-out..head-to-toe. They are available at hands-reach and they are more than powerful enough to prevent, or at least totally change the effects that time and life has on our bodies, skin and minds.
Anyway... I absolutely cannot *WAIT* to get my hands on this book. Just these few
paragraphs has inspired and reminded me that it is not too late and that I still have the power left in my hands so I can see what else Dr Perricone has to say. If this is just the "FREE" little taste--- then I can't imagine what  else he has recorded in this book. I am definitely WRITING A REVIEW for"Only the Best Beauty"as soon as I am done reading it because I am the real living proof of the visible difference that  making these changes has done compared to when I slack off and do not make sure I am consistently living by them. And believe me.. I have never went full blown healthy ever -- it has always been very small additions I put into my day that causes me to see or feel these major benefits.
I cannot even stand to think of how amazing my body will look and feel when I totally dedicated myself to it.. and now I am motivated again. This book is the exact thing I need around as a reminder to never let it go again. Why in the world should we have less than what we could have  and if you are someone like me then you worry about it constantly which is even worse for our bodies. . . !? We all deserve to be living as our "BEST" selves every single day. Regular life is hard enough without the added stresses of health and appearance issues on top of it, working and pushing against us too . I am being very serious people... we hold power to our health in our hands --God of course will choose our time no matter what, but I know we have a choice of how we are going to spend the rest of our time here on earth and I sure do not want tot spend it worn out - tired - sick - wrinkled up and sagging by the time I am 50.. no no no! ;) So Join Me!
                  Introduction to Nutrigenomics
A  question often posed to me during lectures and public appearances is the following: “Dr. Perricone, isn’t it true that genetics play a huge role in my susceptibility to disease and signs of aging?”

Some people ask this question because
they want to avoid taking responsibility for their health– assuming that, for good or ill, it is fixed in their genes like their height or their eye color.

As you will discover in this book, this is far from

true. We have a great deal more control of our bodies than previously thought.

There is an emerging field of study known as nutrigenomics. The word is a combination of nutrition and genomics. Together, they describe a field that focuses on the relationship between diet and gene expression. Nutrigenomic research investigates questions such as how food influences gene expression and how genes influence the way individuals absorb and metabolize different types of nutrients.

Using nutrigenomics, I will demonstrate how you can actually change the way genes are expressed and how that information is transmitted, simply by manipulating different aspects of your diet and lifestyle. For example, you know that by eating many of the foods included in my anti-inflammatory diet, you can:

                  1. Switch on protective genes
                  2. Switch off genes that may have a negative effect on our health

In this chapter we are going to introduce substances that turn off disease and age-accelerating transcription
factors such as NF‑кB and AP‑1 and turn on the age- and disease-fighting transcription factor NRF2. This inconsiderable feat is accomplished by a class of exotic-sounding substances known as Michael acceptor pharmacophores. This process is one of the most fascinating and exciting aspects of my research during the past decade. The remarkably protective properties of Michael acceptor pharmacophores are one of our finest strategies for staying Forever Young. In addition, I will introduce you to phytonutrients with other pharmacophores, which act as powerful anti-inflammatories through similar mechanisms....

In many of my books, I have discussed transcription factors, the protein messengers in our cells that are activated or silenced by different stimuli. Upon activation, these transcription factors translocate to the nucleus of the cell, where they attach to receptor sites on the genes and upregulate, or turn on, their expression. Gene expression provides us with a new strategy to suppress pro-inflammatory genes. This is critical because, as you know, inflammation is the common denominator of all the problems we see with aging and age-related disease.

But research has shown us that it is not just the transcription factors that play a role in gene expression; we now know that nutrients can also affect gene expression in many ways.  My research has revealed a number of novel compounds, naturally found in our diet, that can powerfully and positively affect gene expression.
When these nutrients  regulate gene expression, the following benefits result:
                  • Healthy body weight
                  • Resistance to cognitive decline
                  • Decreased incidence of cancer
                  • Prevention and reversal of insulin resistance and metabolic syndrome
                  • Maintenance of bone density
                  • Optimal function of all vital organs, including the heart, kidney, spleen, and immune system
                  • Maintenance of muscle mass
                  • Well-functioning endocrine system that keeps us fit and sexually active into our later years
                  • Prevention and reduction of damage to the skin caused by aging and the environment
These lofty claims may sound unrealistic, but when it comes to nutrigenomics, the results are well documented.
                  Activating the Longevity Factors
Thanks to my appearances on public television, Oprah, GMA, the Today show, and other popular venues, many people refer to me as the “Salmon and Blueberry Doctor.” It is true that wild salmon and blueberries held center stage in my first book, The Wrinkle Curein which I introduced the anti-inflammatory diet. There are many reasons for this. Salmon and the other cold-water fish are an outstanding source of high-quality protein;carotenoid antioxidants, like astaxanthin, which you will read about in chapter 4; and high levels of the omega-3s and other essential fats, all of which have powerful anti-inflammatory effects.

Roses Are Red, Violets Are Blue (Thanks to the Anthocyanins)
Blueberries are also antioxidant powerhouses containing a variety of phytonutrients, including anthocyanins, from the Greek anthosmeaning “flower” plus kyanos, meaning “blue.” Anthocyanins may be the most important of the visible plant pigments, responsible for...
                  tag
...the reds, purples, and blues you see in plants that have strong antioxidant properties. They are found in such fruits as blueberries, blackberries, raspberries, black raspberries, black currants, açai, and chokeberry and vegetables including red cabbage, watercress, and eggplant. Anthocyanins provide many different functions for the plant. They are antioxidants, protect the plant against UV light, are a defense mechanism, and have an important role in pollination and reproduction. The purple pansy, for example, owes its color to anthocyanins, which attract insects to propagate the species.

As antioxidants, anthocyanins protect plants from free radicals produced by sunlight or damage to the plant. The ability of the anthocyanins to protect plants from free-radical damage can also benefit us when we eat foods that are rich in anthocyanins.
As mentioned earlier in this chapter, blueberries contain many powerful polyphenols that make them a true superfood, one that I have been recommending for decades. We know that they are rich in polyphenols such as the anthocyanins, which have many benefits, including the following:
                  • They have the ability to speed up neural communication. Blueberry-supplemented neurons have a better ability to communicate with each other.
                  • Catechins contained in blueberries prevent cell death and the loss of nerve growth factors.
                  • Blueberries increase the release of dopamine, an energizing, stimulatory neurotransmitter.
                  • Blueberries protect us from age-associated declines in dopamine levels, helping us to maintain youthful brain function.

This won't pertain to everyone but depression, anxiety and addiction are very common these days so it may help someone...( *Dopamine Levels is one thing that a drug takes over in a person's brain. It gives them the high-happy feeling because instead of a steady release it just sends them rushing out and you're like "Whoa baby why can't I feel that way all the time?". Then when a person tries to stop their brain doesn't make as much or any at all anymore because the body became dependant on the drug  doing it so the body stopped.     *This is also a chemical lacking when a person is experiencing depression.
Since Blueberries have this type of effect, they are a wonderful thing to eat if you have either emotional issues, dependency on pills etc.., nerve issues. I recommend snacking on blueberries all through out the day. Of course at first they won't completely restore things back to normal with one or two bites but they will really make a difference in how long it will take your body to naturally balance things back out. Then the sooner your body and brain can get back to normal, the sooner you can start adding to it by keeping blueberries and other pigmented foods in your diet everyday, and it will keep those levels up and ultimately be an 'aid' in your recovery).

Anthocyanins also possess a special form of stilbenes known as pterostilbene, which activates the genes that influence longevity factors. This is another reason choosing brightly colored fruits and vegetables is essential. The colors signify the presence of plant pigments, which do more than just add color to fruits, vegetables, and certain seafood. Colorful fruits and vegetables serve as the top dietary sources of disease-preventive phytonutrients and antiaging antioxidants. But, this is not the entire story. We now know that many of these phytonutrients also work through other mechanisms, specifically the expression of genes that can upregulate the natural protective mechanisms of our cells.

Superfoods and Spices for Beautiful Skin
I believe that foods have an extremely powerful effect on our physical and mental well-beingFunctioning very much like pharmacological agents, foods can dramatically alter the biochemistry of cells, affecting both cell and organ function. Food is what provides the body with the nutrients needed forcellular growth and repair. As we age, cellular inflammation disrupts the cell’s normal biochemical functions, negatively affecting all organ systems. We know that the high-glycemic carbohydrates – sugars and starches!!!– cause a rapid rise in blood sugar and insulin and generate an inflammatory response. In addition, synthetic foods like trans fats and other chemical additives disrupt cellular function by either increasing inflammation or functioning as toxins.

                  Inflammation and the Skin
The skin is eventually damaged by this chronic low-grade inflammation, which manifests in the classic signs of aging, including wrinkling, sagging, discoloration, enlarged pores, and lack of radiance. We long for a radiant, youthful complexion and try unsuccessfully to achieve this with a variety of cosmetics and potions that offer “hope in a jar” and not much else.

But there is good news. It has been shown that after only three days of the anti-inflammatory diet, skin looks significantly healthier, more radiant, and less wrinkled. And topical anti-inflammatories, many of them from food-sourced antioxidants, provide many visible benefits. We are now ready for the next generation of topical therapies, which rely on nutrigenomics and the marvel of gene expression.

                  Designer Genes for Flawless Skin
Food-based nutrients can alter gene expression. As a dermatologist, I have been delighted to learn that when these nutrients are applied topically, they can upregulate the expression of genes that decrease and/or prevent inflammation. By assisting the cells’ normal ability to repair themselves, these nutrients produce a more youthful appearance with positive, visible changes in a matter of days.
The Rainbow Foods  Color Is the Key to Gene Expression

                  Messengers
All antioxidants act as anti-inflammatories, but not all phytonutrients are necessarily antioxidants. There are other important factors at work. Although antioxidants are an important part of the picture, the antioxidant hypothesis is an oversimplification of the biochemical story. Antioxidants do neutralize free radicals, but we now know that they do much more. Both antioxidants and phytonutrients have the power to alter the genetic instructions found in our genes’ DNA, which holds our genetic blueprint. Antioxidants and other nutrients can also act as signaling mechanisms in the cell. By means of gene expression, they upregulate the cell’s natural protective and regulatory functions, which then promote the visible differences that we are searching for.

                  Seeing Blue and Going Green:
                  Nutrigenomics in Action
The nutrients and other substances discussed in this chapter provide benefits that far exceed their function as antioxidants. Green, black, and white tea (Camellia sinensis), cocoa, and blueberries all contain special catechins (with active pharmacophores) that have significant effects on gene expression.

Tea has many benefits and is well known for both its anticancer and its antioxidant properties. Other positive effects include:
                  • The amino acid called theonine, a natural relaxant that won’t make you drowsy
                  • The ability to increase metabolism, resulting in the burning of body fat
                  • The ability to suppress the absorption of fat
                  • High levels of antioxidants that act as anti-inflammatories and are protective for the skin and brain, and all your organs
                  • The ability to improve glucose tolerance in diabetic mice, an effect that may help prevent type 2 diabetes
                  • High levels of an important polyphenol antioxidant, epigallocatechin gallate (EGCG), which is believed to be responsible for much of green tea’s promise in the prevention of cardiovascular disease, obesity, Alzheimer’s disease, cancer, periodontal disease, and dental cavities
                  • Topical application of low-dose green tea extract may help protect against UV damage, without the common side effects
What I find so exciting about substances like EGCG and related catechins is their ability to bind to the signaling molecules that either block or activate transcription factors. In other words, the EGCG found in tea can inhibit the activation of NF‑кB, thereby blocking all of the pro-inflammatory cytokines normally generated when it is activated. The EGCG may also bind to the protective transcription factor NRF2, upregulating many of our antioxidant defense systems.

                  Beyond Antioxidants
Although the antioxidant activity of many of these substances may have a minor role in their protection against cancer, heart disease, Alzheimer’s disease, and wrinkles, it is not the main reason for their outstanding antiaging, chemoprotective properties. Their mild pro-oxidant effects are the real heroes, because they activate protective transcription factors such as NRF2 as they inhibit damaging transcription factors such as NF‑кB.

For example, we have known for years that blueberries improved memory and protected the skin, but it was not until the discovery of nutrigenomics that I learned their elusive mechanism of action, which can be attributed to the presence of the catechins. As with all of the substances discussed in this chapter, this mechanism of action exceeds their status as antioxidants. Their pro-oxidant activity results in the production of more than fifteen or twenty cell-protective enzymes that are produced by the activation of the genes controlled by transcription factors.
                                                 100 Percent Pure
At the same time, the molecules that we thought were just antioxidants bind to and turn off transcription factors that are known to up-regulate more than a hundred inflammation-generating genes, resulting in damage to all of our organ systems. For example, when activated, age accelerating transcription factors produce a host of pro-inflammatory cytokines that can drive the formation of cancer. At the same time, the cell’s ability to turn on apoptosis (programmed cell death) is turned off. In other words, age-accelerating transcription factors prevent cancer cells from self-destruction. When the activation of these transcription factors is blocked, all of their cancer-promoting properties are turned off and apoptosis, which results in the self-destruction of the cancer cells, is turned on. All of the substances you will read about in this chapter have the ability to deactivate age-accelerating transcription factors and to activate the protective transcription factor.
Catechins such as EGCG act like Michael acceptor pharmacophores, controlling gene expression by binding with the thiols in these transcription factors. Once again, the nutrigenomic aspect of dietary substances proves to be the mechanism of action that far exceeds their antioxidant capabilities. Scientists still do not understand the significance of the sulfur-binding capability of EGCG and the other catechins, which allows them to control the very powerful transcription factors for good or ill.

Blueberries, cocoa, and tea, with active pharmacophores, are perfect examples of how nutritional factors exert control of gene expression. A pharmacophore is a set of structural features in a molecule that is recognized at a receptor site. This set of features is responsible for the molecule’s biological activity. Nutrigenomics, the common factor and theme throughout this book, clarifies, for the first time, the previously unknown mechanism of action of these food substances.
                  Wrinkle Blocker
The EGCG in tea prevents the activation of collagen-digesting enzymes known This is a critical function because these enzymes are responsible for wrinkling of the skin.

                  The Future Is Now
Scientists working on the Human Genome Project talk of a bright future for genetic manipulation, one that will someday change our lives for the better (better? Hmm.. yes it will be in some ways-- for things such as what we have talked about.. but it seems like they take every new and wonderful technology advancement and use it for something evil so we will see ... haha). But I am telling you that right now, today, The RainbowFoodsthat are gracing our dinner tables in all of their colorful, flavorful, and aromatic glory hold the key to turning on the protective, restorative genes and turning off the damaging ones. As might be expected, pro-inflammatory foods turn off the protective genes and turn on the damaging ones. As children we can get away with quite a bit and not have it show up on our face or body. However, as we age, our bodies are not so forgiving, and pro-inflammatory foods are manifested in a very visible manner: puffy eyes, wrinkled, sagging skin, enlarged pores, discolorations, dullness, acne, loss ofyouthful contours, and so forth  (GEEZ LOUISE!).

Some nutrients pack a powerful nutrigenomic punch with many benefits. This chapter will examine the beneficial effects of watercress; essential fatty acids; cinnamon, turmeric, and other spices; chocolate; and vitamin D.

In addition, you will learn about new research on free radicals that uses spin traps, molecules that are able to catch volatile free radicals so that they can be studied.
